Description of Accident: A 48-year-old Newberry Police Officer, with 20 years of service, died in a collision while on duty. The incident occurred around 5:30 P.M. on Wednesday at the intersection of Nance Street and Dixie Drive in Newberry, about a mile away from the downtown police department. The officer was driving South on Nance Street in an unmarked patrol car while a tractor-trailer was heading East on Dixie Drive, the two vehicles collided at the intersection. The officer was responding to a call at the time of the crash. Both the officer and the tractor-trailer driver were taken to the hospital, where the officer later passed away.
