On Your Mark … Set … Swim … Cycle … Run … Go … to the Charleston Sprint Triathlon| Charleston, SC

Swimmers, Bikers, and Runners head on over to James Island County Park for the 26th Annual Charleston Sprint Triathlon Series. For the dedicated sports and fitness enthusiasts, the five-race triathlon series features a 600-yard freshwater swim, 12-mile bike ride, and 5k flat run. If you cannot participate as an athlete this year, come anyway and cheer on your neighbors. Participants can register for three, four, or five races prior to each race date before 2PM on Fridays. On-site registration is also available on Saturdays prior to each race.

Bear Awareness Day | Charleston, SC

School is almost out and summer is about to start. This means that camping season is just around the corner. For families and groups that enjoy outdoor adventures, it is time to get camping equipment ready and start planning your trips to the campsites in and around the Charleston area.

In addition to humans visiting campgrounds, the bears, raccoons, and other critters call the great outdoors their home. Learn how to bear-proof your campsite and keep camp animals from sleeping over. The event, run by the Animal Forest Keepers, helps campers make their tent and campsites less attractive to camp dwellers by providing “bear proofing” tips and techniques to unwanted visitors away.

Party at the Point Happy Hour | Charleston, SC

Back for its 16th season, Party at the Point is a spring into summer happy hour concert series that runs weekly on Fridays at the Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina. Starting at 5:30 PM, the musical acts take the stage at 6:30 PM. The happy hour features a cash bar, including draft specials, followed by live music at 6:30 PM. Show tickets are available at the gate for $7.00. Parking is free and valet parking is available for $5.00.

Toddler Day: Bug Bonanza | Charleston, SC

There is something about bugs that remind us of those early years. Play and explore at the Charleston Museum on select Wednesday mornings from 10 AM to 11 AM with a toddler. The next Toddler Day is on Wednesday, May 25th and the subject is bugs – or rather a bug bonanza.

The Toddler Day program is designed for toddlers ages 18 months to 3 years. Each toddler will participate in four craft projects as well as finger paints, a puppet stage, and a sandbox, among other activities. Each toddler must be accompanied by a parent, grandparent, or caregiver.

Spoleto Festival USA | Charleston, SC

Lovers of the arts rejoice! The Spoleto Festival USA in Charleston was founded in 1977 by Juan Carlo Menotti, a Pulitzer Prize winning composer and modeled after the Festival dei Due Mondi (The Festival of Two Worlds) in Spoleto, Italy.

For 17 glorious days in the spring, over 150 performances of opera, dance, theater, classical music, and jazz will be showcased by established and up and coming artists in one of the country’s premier performing arts festivals. Bands, Burgers and Brews: Burger Throwdown | Charleston, SC

It’s that time of the year again. In a few days, the Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina will present the annual Bands, Burgers and Brews: Burger Throwdown. Join the hippest restaurants, local chefs, past winners, and new entrants as they complete for the title of top lowcountry burger. The winner will advance to the World Food Championship’s Burger Competition held in November in Florida.

George Motz, from the Travel Channel’s Burger Land program along with other culinary giants will judge the competition and choose the Lowcountry representative in the World Burger Competition.

Atlantic Cup | Charleston, SC

On May 28th, the Atlantic Cup sailing race is set to begin in Charleston, SC. The Atlantic Cup is a three-stage sailing race that hugs the Eastern shoreline of the United States from Portland, Maine in the north to Charleston, South Carolina in the south. Racing for 1,045 nautical miles, the Atlantic Cup, is the longest offshore sailing race in the Western Atlantic, featuring Class40s, monohull race boats.

The race starts in Charleston with a stop in Brooklyn, NY, and ends at Portland, Maine. The race is free and open to the public. Make sure you check out the Kids Day activities online, to be held on May 26th, where local children will learn about the environmental challenges facing the ocean.
