Description of Accident: On Wednesday at approximately 6:56 PM, a fatal multi-vehicle collision occurred on I-85 South near the 96-mile marker. The incident took place in a construction zone where a northbound tractor-trailer rig struck a guardrail on the right side of the road. The impact caused the tractor-trailer to breach the concrete barrier wall separating the north and southbound lanes.
The tractor-trailer then collided with a Nissan Rouge Sport traveling south on I-85 and another southbound tractor-trailer. The driver of the Nissan, a 73-year-old man, was trapped inside his vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
