Description of Accident: A 45-year-old waste management worker and resident of Columbia tragically lost his life on Monday. While collecting trash bins for an environmental waste management company, he was struck by a westbound vehicle in the 5600 block of Wescott Road, Columbia, Lexington County, around 4:40 p.m. The victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle and two occupants sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital. The South Carolina Highway Patrol and Lexington County Coroner’s Office are actively investigating the incident.
